Rape Culture in New India

Since the beginning of time, our culture has taught us to respect and treat women as goddesses, regardless of caste, religion, or faith. The Vedas and Puranas also taught us the same thing. However, everything is completely wrong in New India. Sinners are being glorified by the ruling government, and women are being punished.

Every day, we see news headlines about rapes, lynchings, and dowry cases in India. The incidents happened with the girls in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand have stunned everyone. Due to some evils, our sisters like Ankita Bhandari, Shraddha Walkar, Aradhana Prajapati, Anjali Singh, and many more all lost their lives. However, the current government is taking advantage of these incidents to polarise the people using women as a political tool.

In Uttarakhand, the son of a senior BJP leader was providing escort service to VIP guests at his hotel. And for this he was forcing innocent girls to do this shameful act. Ankita Bhandari was also a victim of this demon. But no one raised voice for her.

Media controlled by the ruling government was debating the rights of Iranian Muslim women in their shows but not running a single news item to bring justice to Ankita. They covered injustice to women only when they found a communal angle in it like Shraddha Walker case. Who were the VIPs for whom BJP leader's son provided escort service? Why was the booked room of these VIPs were burnt first? Why was the post-mortem report not in detailed? Why was the body cremated without the consent of her parents? All these questions are still unanswered. Sadder thing was that when this matter was in light, Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani was posting the cooking video on her social media account.

The murder of Shraddha Madan Koli was as shocking and heart wrenching as the Ankita Bhandari murder case. But in this case the culprit was Muslim and this was a big opportunity for BJP to create Hindu Muslim divide in the society and as every Indian knows BJP controlled Godi media don’t miss any chance to spread hatred in the society so they gave full coverage given in this case.

BJP projects Uttar Pradesh as its development model and claims that even at 12 midnight a girl can ride a scotty wearing jewellery, but according to NCRB data, it is Uttar Pradesh where 153 women are killed every day, rape crimes increasing by 20%, and there is 25% increase in dowry cases in one year.

Another news from Gujarat which shook India and raised questions whether there is any justice system left in India due to BJP's interference. On 15 August 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave a speech on “Nari Samman” (Respect for women) and in the evening people who raped a pregnant woman, killed her family members in front of her in Gujrat riots were pre released by the Gujarat government by saying they were “Sanskari” (Cultured) persons. Even more surprising in this matter was the clearance was received from Home Minister Amit Shah's department.

There are 11 women ministers in the Modi government's cabinet. Not a single word by these 11 on this injustice happening to women in the society. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also become mute on these incidents. Is PM Modi's respect for women only for speeches? This silence of PM Modi is giving more courage to the media to spread venom in the name of religion.
